MUTUAL AID TO PLAINFIELD FOR BRUSH & STRUCTURE FIRE

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

At 13:10 this afternoon the Central Village Fire Co. was dispatched mutual aid to Lovers Lane in Plainfield as part of a structure fire assignment.  The incident originated as an outside fire with exposure to a 20' x 20' outbuilding, a vacant trailer home, and several debris piles.  The Central Village assignment consisted of ET-197 and F-197 with combined staffing of six (6) members.  Moosup Deputy Chief Yellen (C-194) was the first officer to reach the scene and reported 100% involvement of the outbuilding with a significant risk of exposure to the trailer home.  The brush fire aspect of the incident encompassed approximately two (2) acres and ignited several debris piles.  ET-197 was the second engine to reach the scene behind Plainfield's ET-195.  The Central Village crew was ordered to deploy two (2) hoselines, the first to prevent extension to the trailer home, and the second to extinguish the remains of the outbuilding.  Central Village members also worked with personnel from Plainfield, Atwood Hose and Moosup to bring the wind-driven brush fire under control.  All units assisted with the overhaul and mop-up process.  Station 97 units operated until 15:05 before returning to service.
