FIRST
DUE TRAILER HOME FIRE
Sunday, March 23, 2008
At 22:40 hours QV dispatched
a structure fire assignment for the Central Village Fire Co.
Callers reported a well-involved vacant trailer home on Black Hill Road
across the street from Station 97. Companies filling out the
assignment were Moosup, Atwood Hose, and a FAST response from
Plainfield. Deputy Chief LaPierre (C-197) was the first officer to
reach the scene at 22:43 and confirm the callers' reports.
"Central Village Command" was established, and ET-197 arrived only
moments later. Due to the distance off the road the residence sat,
and a driveway inaccessible by any fire apparatus, the crew from ET-197
stretched a 300' 1-3/4" pre-connect to the front of the structure.
Although units arrived so quickly, fire conditions dictated a defensive
operation. The initial hose crew also encountered several venting
LP cylinders of various sizes around the outside of the dwelling.
The gas cylinders were controlled accordingly as extinguishment efforts
began. Crews from Moosup and Atwood Hose began to arrive and
assist with extinguishment and opening up. All visible fire was
knocked down within 10 minutes and units worked through the extensive
overhaul process which revealed an exceptionally heavy fire load.
All mutual aid companies were released by 00:30, and Central Village
returned to service by 01:00. The Fire Marshal remained on scene
to investigate with the State Fire Marshal's office and the Plainfield
Police. |
