CENTRAL VILLAGE RUNS A TWO-CAR ON MAIN STREET

Saturday, March 29, 2008 - Shortly after 18:00 hours QV Dispatch alerted Central Village Fire units of a two-car accident on Main Street in the area of Tillinghast Funeral Home.  ET-197, with Chief Lewis (C-97), was on the air within minutes and responded with a crew of four (4).  First arriving Assistant Chief Irons (C-297) reported that the incident was minor in nature, and only one (1) occupant from the involved vehicles was requesting transport.  The crew from ET-197 arrived and secured all hazards associated with the vehicles, which included a small amount of haz-mat in the roadway.  Additional Central Village personnel cared for the injured party until being transferred to the Mortlake Ambulance.  Station 97 units held the scene with the Plainfield Police for 40 minutes before returning to service.

FIRST DUE TRAILER HOME FIRE

Sunday, March 23, 2008 - At 22:40 hours QV dispatched a structure fire assignment for the Central Village Fire Co.  Callers reported a well-involved vacant trailer home on Black Hill Road across the street from Station 97.  Companies filling out the assignment were Moosup, Atwood Hose, and a FAST response from Plainfield.  Deputy Chief LaPierre (C-197) was the first officer to reach the scene at 22:43 and confirm the callers' reports.  "Central Village Command" was established, and ET-197 arrived only moments later.  Due to the distance off the road the residence sat, and a driveway inaccessible by any fire apparatus, the crew from ET-197 stretched a 300'  1-3/4" pre-connect to the front of the structure.  Although units arrived so quickly, fire conditions dictated a defensive operation.  The initial hose crew also encountered several venting LP cylinders of various sizes around the outside of the dwelling.  The gas cylinders were controlled accordingly as extinguishment efforts began.  Crews from Moosup and Atwood Hose began to arrive and assist with extinguishment and opening up.  All visible fire was knocked down within 10 minutes and units worked through the extensive overhaul process which revealed an exceptionally heavy fire load.  All mutual aid companies were released by 00:30, and Central Village returned to service by 01:00.  The Fire Marshal remained on scene to investigate with the State Fire Marshal's office and the Plainfield Police.

CENTRAL VILLAGE ON WAUREGAN ROLLOVER

Friday, March 21, 2008 - Shortly after 21:00 hours QV began taking reports of a vehicle rolled over with it's occupant still inside on Green Hollow Road in the area of the Music Lady Cafe.  Moments later the assignment was dispatched bringing Central Village, the Moosup FD for R-494, and the Moosup Ambulance to the scene.  Central Village units were in the area immediately, and found nothing on Green Hollow Road in the first due.  Units continued further North into the Wauregan section where the incident was located one-half mile over the district line.  One vehicle was found overturned in the roadway with the lone occupant self-extricated and uninjured.  The heavy rescue assignment from Moosup was released, and Atwood Hose was requested to the scene to close the roadway on the North side of the accident.  The crew from ET-197 secured all hazards associated with the vehicle, and units held the scene with the Plainfield Police until the roadway could be re-opened.  Central Village and Atwood Hose units returned to service just prior to 23:00 hours.

MINOR ACCIDENT SENDS ONE TO THE HOSPITAL

Sunday, March 16, 2008 - At 15:15 this afternoon The Central Village Fire Co. was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Green Hollow Road in the area of the infamous Green Hollow Farm.  ET-197 and R-197 responded with a total of six (6) members.  First arriving Assistant Chief Irons (C-297) reported a single vehicle accident vs. stone wall with all patients appearing to be ambulatory.  All injuries were minor, and one (1) occupant of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital.  Crews from ET-197 and R-197 secured hazards associated with the vehicle, and assisted the Plainfield Police with traffic control.  Central Village units operated for thirty (30) minutes before returning to service.

CENTRAL FAST PUT TO WORK AT CANTERBURY
HOUSE FIRE

Monday, March 10, 2008 - Shortly before 10:00 this morning QV dispatch started taking calls for a well-involved structure fire on Brooklyn Road in Canterbury.  Moments later the first alarm assignment was dispatched for the Canterbury Fire Department with mutual aid from Scotland, Hampton, and a FAST response from Central Village.  ET-197 responded on the run with five (5) members.  Arriving Canterbury units found a vacant two (2) story wood frame dwelling with self-vented fire from the upper floor and roof.  ET-197 reached the scene shortly after Station 93 units and E-116.  The Central Village crew was immediately assigned to fire suppression duties by the Canterbury command staff.  The crew from E-193 advanced a handline to the second floor initiating an aggressive interior attack while Central Village members put an additional handline into operation on the first floor.  The crew from ET-197 extinguished moderate fire conditions on the first floor, and also protected the stairway for units operating on the second floor.  After a partial roof collapse all units were ordered out of the building in favor of a defensive operation.  In the absence of an aerial device, crews operated hoselines and opened up off of ground ladders until Canterbury Command (Chief Kasacek C-93) special called Mortlake's L-190.  Once on scene, the elevated master-stream from L-190 extinguished a majority of the fire.  After ensuring structural integrity, crews were once again allowed to re-enter the dwelling for overhaul.  The Central Village assignment operated for just over three (3) hours before returning to service.

GARAGE FIRE IN MOOSUP

Monday, March 3, 2008 - At 00:45 minutes this morning QV dispatched the Moosup Fire Department, along with a first alarm assignment, to a well-involved garage fire on North Main Street in their first due.  Mutual aid companies on the assignment were Central Village, Atwood Hose, and FAST responses from Plainfield and Danielson.  Moosup Chief Theriault (C-94) arrived minutes after the initial dispatch and reported heavy fire involvement in a 20' x 30' wood frame garage with exposure to an adjacent residence.  Moosup's L-194 arrived and placed their front bumper line into operation between the involved garage and residential exposure preventing further property damage.  ET-197 pulled up moments later with five (5) members, and was requested to deploy their front bumper line to assist with extinguishment efforts.  Moosup and Central Village crews had the main body of fire knocked down within 10 minutes and began overhauling.  Command returned FAST crews, however requested Plainfield to the scene for ET-295.  Atwood Hose members checked exposures with negative findings.  ET-197 operated for approximately one (1) hour before returning from the Almyville section of Moosup.
