MUTUAL AID TO CANTERBURY FOR THE
ELECTRICAL FIRE
Saturday, January 26, 2008
- Just after 13:00 hours a structure fire
assignment was dispatched to Canterbury for a reported electrical fire
in the cafeteria of the Dr. Helen Baldwin School. This brought 93,
16, 97, ET-295 & L-194 FAST to the scene. Central Village
responded with ET-197 & ET-297. Canterbury Deputy Chief McCarthy
(C-193) arrived minutes later reporting nothing apparent from the
exterior of an educational facility. Further investigation of the
cafeteria revealed a smoke condition and a moderate electrical odor, but
no visible fire or source of the problem. Canterbury units opened
up and ventilated while a crew from Central Village was assigned to
check the upper level of the building. The crew from
L-194 was requested to check the roof level for any abnormalities.
All findings were negative and mutual aid companies were released.
The Fire Marshal remained on scene with Station 93 to investigate
further. |

CV FIRE SHARPENS SKILLS AT ELEVATOR
RESCUE DRILL
Tuesday, January 22, 2008
- This evening members drilled on elevator
rescue procedures at the old Plainfield High School building on Putnam
Road. Prior to heading to the drill site, personnel reviewed the
department's guideline pertaining to incidents of this nature, and also
outlined the evening's training and safety objectives. Members
took part in scenario-based evolutions requiring them to access a
stalled elevator car, descend into the shaft to the roof of the car, and
remove a victim through the car's top-hatch. The training exercise
proved to be quite beneficial for all personnel in attendance.

CVFD HOSTS CHILD IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM
Saturday, January 19, 2008
- Today members of the fire company partnered
with the local Masons' Lodge to sponsor a comprehensive child
identification program at the station.
CTCHIP is a free service offered
by the Connecticut Freemasons Foundation to any parent or guardian who
wishes to have their child participate. This program offers an
additional measure of protection against the increasing problem of missing
or abducted children. Fire company members and Masons worked
together to generate ID packages for over 100 local children. We
would like to take a moment to thank all of the parents and guardians
who took the time to participate in this very worthwhile cause.
