CENTRAL VILLAGE CALLED TO PLAINFIELD BRUSH FIRE

Friday, April 25, 2008 - At 13:40 hours QV dispatched Central Village units to assist the Plainfield Fire Department with a quick-moving brush fire on Lathrop Road in their first due.  ET-197 & F-197 responded on the run with combined staffing of six (6) members.  While en route to Plainfield, QV redirected Station 97 to a report of a separate grass fire near the intersection of Norwich Road and Lathrop Road Ext.  ET-197 located a very small fire and had it controlled within minutes before continuing onto the original assignment.  The crew from F-197 arrived and immediately went to work extinguishing fire in close proximity to a residence.  Personnel staffing ET-197 also began knocking down fire while the apparatus chauffer shuttled loads of water from the fill site to brush units on the fireground.  Several other mutual aid forestry apparatus and tankers were called to the scene before the estimated 15 acre fire was brought under control.  Central Village units assisted on scene until 18:00 hours.      

 


 

ET-197 ON ONECO 2ND ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE

Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - Shortly after 13:00 hours the Central Village Fire Company was called to Plainfield Pike in the Oneco section of Sterling as part of a 2nd alarm structure fire assignment.  Oneco, Sterling, and several other mutual units had been on scene since approximately 12:30 battling a fire in a vacant chicken coop measuring 60' x 100'.  ET-197 responded with a crew of four (4).  Command directed ET-197 to set-up a draft site at the Oneco Pond adjacent to the former Sterling Elementary School.  Western Coventry, R.I. ET-18 was given the same assignment and joined the Central Village crew at the draft site.  A number of tankers were being utilized to sustain a constant water supply at the fire scene.  Central Village and Western Coventry crews worked together refilling tankers until being released at 15:00 hours.        

 


 

CENTRAL VILLAGE FAST RUNS MORTLAKE HOUSE FIRE

Saturday, April 19, 2008 - At 18:30 hours the Mortlake Fire Company was dispatched to a well-involved structure fire on Gorman Road in their first due.  The balance of the assignment consisted of E. Brooklyn, Atwood Hose, and a FAST response from Central Village & Moosup.  ET-197 responded with a crew of six (6) under the direction of Deputy Chief LaPierre (C-197).  Arriving Mortlake units confirmed full involvement of the single story wood-frame dwelling and initiated an exterior operation.  Central Village and Moosup FAST crews stood-by until 20:00 hours before being released by Command.   

 


 

TRUCK VS. POLE CLOSES EAST MAIN STREET

Friday, April 18, 2008 - Shortly after 21:00 hours QV dispatched the Central Village Fire Company to a vehicle accident vs. pole at the intersection of E. Main Street and Green Hollow Road.  ET-197 & R-197 responded on the run.  First arriving Deputy Chief LaPierre (C-197) reported a pick-up truck vs. telephone pole on E. Main Street, adjacent to the I-395 Exit 89 southbound off-ramp.  The single occupant of the truck was self-extricated upon arrival and uninjured.  Due to the precarious condition of the involved telephone pole, E. Main Street and the highway exit ramp were closed to all traffic.  Station 97 units held the scene until the power company deemed the situation safe.  Central Village units returned to service around 22:30 hours.    

 
CENTRAL VILLAGE ON 2 BRUSH FIRES IN 2 HOURS....
MUTUAL AID THEN FIRST DUE
 
Friday, April 18, 2008 - At 10:06 Central Village units were added to a brush fire assignment on Finn Road in Canterbury.  F-197 & ET-197 responded with combined staffing of four (4) members.  Command advised incoming Station 97 units that F-197 would assist with extinguishment efforts on the Northern flank of the fire, while ET-197 supplied it's load of water.  Crews operated in Canterbury until 11:24 until having to quickly free up to respond back to Central Village for a brush fire on Old Black Hill Road.  Due to the delayed response time for F-197 & ET-197, a brush assignment from the Moosup Fire Department was dispatched.  Station 94 had F-194 "The Mule" & ET-194 on the air in moments with five (5) members.  Both Central Village and Moosup units arrived at the same time and brought the fire under control within five (5) minutes.  Stations 97 & 94 held the scene until 12:15 before returning to service.      
 


 

TRACTOR TRAILER VS. CAR INJURES ONE

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - Shortly after 12:00 hours QV dispatched the Central Village Fire Company to a vehicle accident with injuries in the area of 60 E. Main Street.  First arriving Assistant Chief Irons (C-297) reported only one (1) minor injury, and that the two (2) vehicle accident involved a tractor trailer unit vs. car.  ET-197 responded on the run with four (4) members.  Personnel from ET-197 controlled hazards associated with the vehicles while the Moosup Ambulance rendered medical care.  Central Village units operated for 30 minutes before re-opening the roadway and returning to service.      

 

MUTUAL AID TO PLAINFIELD FOR BRUSH & STRUCTURE FIRE

Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - At 13:10 this afternoon the Central Village Fire Co. was dispatched mutual aid to Lovers Lane in Plainfield as part of a structure fire assignment.  The incident originated as an outside fire with exposure to a 20' x 20' outbuilding, a vacant trailer home, and several debris piles.  The Central Village assignment consisted of ET-197 and F-197 with combined staffing of six (6) members.  Moosup Deputy Chief Yellen (C-194) was the first officer to reach the scene and reported 100% involvement of the outbuilding with a significant risk of exposure to the trailer home.  The brush fire aspect of the incident encompassed approximately two (2) acres and ignited several debris piles.  ET-197 was the second engine to reach the scene behind Plainfield's ET-195.  The Central Village crew was ordered to deploy two (2) hoselines, the first to prevent extension to the trailer home, and the second to extinguish the remains of the outbuilding.  Central Village members also worked with personnel from Plainfield, Atwood Hose and Moosup to bring the wind-driven brush fire under control.  All units assisted with the overhaul and mop-up process.  Station 97 units operated until 15:05 before returning to service.
